The history of Central Oregon is as varied as the weather and the people who are attracted to it. Just over 100 years old, this relatively new area on the Oregon Trail is still sparsely populated by most standards. The region is growing by leaps and bounds as modern pioneers move in from all parts of the country, but it is still small compared to the overall area of the West. What is the attraction of Central Oregon? We hope to show you.

This directory has two purposes: 1) to provide the Web site visitor with as many area resources as possible, and 2) to introduce you to the varied businesses that make up Central Oregon. Although there are the usual large retailers, the Central Oregon business person is more entrepreneurial in nature, and consequently provides more personalized service.

Bend, situated at the base of the majestic Cascade Range, is the hub of Central Oregon; to the north is Redmond and Madras, to the west is Sisters, and to the south is Sunriver and LaPine. There are other communities such as Prineville, Culver, Terrebonne and John Day, to the east, but there are only a few populated areas in the vast high desert that stretches between Bend and the eastern more populated border.

The climate is as varied as the region and the settlers. Incredible sunny summer days, stretch into Indian Summer which lasts until late October when the first snow falls in the Cascades. This sign of the start of winter sends many rushing to the ski shops in anticipation of the start of ski season. The combination of summer and winter activities makes Central Oregon a mecca for outdoor activities. If it is done, it can be done in Central Oregon.

The Deschutes River and Little Deschutes run through the Central Oregon region. In the Cascades there are hundreds of lakes and streams fed by the run-off from the volcanic peaks of the Three Sisters, Broken Top, and Mt. Bachelor with its destination ski resort. The area is home to many resorts and out of the way bed and breakfasts. Join us as we take you through this fascinating place called Central Oregon.
