Eastern Oregon is primarily vacant by modern standards. It is rural, there are many ranches and there is a lot to see if you like open spaces and scenic vistas. Some of the original settlements are ghost towns—a favorite of ours for years, was the town of Blitzen featured above. It is no more but a pile of lumber in the pasture of a ranch. In the distance is Steens Mountain, a favorite view point and hiking area.
