BITS & PIECES, 2005 a festival of short plays All new one-act plays for 2005 to celebrate the opening of our fifth season. 2nd Street Theater opened it’s doors with a one-act festival in the fall of 2001. Since then, the one-act festival has become a very popular production each year. To celebrate our fifth anniversary, we present an evening of nine new and wonderful short plays. |

When Mavis Templeton-Hollister decides to kill her newlywed husband, the results are both suspenseful and hilarious. THE GIN GAME by D.L. Coburn Produced by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc. Winner of the 1978 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. A scathingly funny battle of wits is played out as Weller Martin and Fonsia Dorsey, two feisty nursing home residents, start a game of gin rummy to combat their loneliness. POLISH JOKE by David Ives Produced by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service, Inc.. A comedy about ethnic identity and the eternal American search for “roots”. Jan “Jasiu” Sadlowski is reluctant to accept his ancestral destiny that allows him few career options beyond janitor. His quest to reinvent himself takes him through different names and national origins in a series of hilarious and sometimes surreal encounters. In the end, by trying to get away from his ethnic background, Jasiu discovers who he truly is and what it means to be a "Pole." |
